Yep, Lake Mohave and Laughlin. Why? It’s been a tradition for quite some time now. The normal reaction is, “Yuck. How hot was it?” And while it is typically hot, I can honestly say it is a dry heat. No humidity whatsoever. This year was quite different. We’ve been there with the temperatures reaching 117 – 120 easy. This year I think the hottest day was Friday at 105. Most days hovered around 98-100 and every afternoon a storm would blow in. Tuesday the lightening drove us off the lake late in the afternoon, and Wednesday ‘hurricane Mohave’ hit hard. We’ve never experienced anything like it in all my years going there. The wind forced us to end our day early, but what followed made us glad we were closer to our cars than our camp site. As we entered the marina, you could see the line across the lake where the rain was pounding down. It hadn’t made its way to us, but it was on its way, and once it hit, with the wind blowing, I was actually cold. We carefully walked as fast as we could to the cars while hail and stinging rain hit us. Lightening was everywhere, thunder was loud, the wind was dangerous, and the rain soaked us through. What an event! Thursday was our bbq day, where we go out to the lake later in the day so that we can stay until dark. Those are nice days, because the lake gets quiet, and the water is glass. A storm threatened our hamburgers and hot dogs, but stayed out of our area. It was a beautiful ride into the marina with the sun setting. Friday, we always have a full day of fun on the lake, soaking in our last minutes of vacation, packing up, and pulling the boats and toys off the lake. After our long day, we all head to pizza for one last meal together before everyone heads their separate ways. We have families who join us from Northern, and Southern California as well as Texas and Tennessee. I’ll tell you more in a future post about the talented Bancroft family in particular.
It was truly relaxing, stress-free, and I miss it, but I’m glad to be home regardless of the loads of laundry, lists of groceries, and chores that await me. Because of the extreme amount of pictures I took, you’ll have to click here to see the slideshow of our trip. Enjoy!
